About the Workshop

The Regional Conference on the Impact of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis to the Vulnerable Sectors in the Region: Civil Society Voices and ASEAN was held on July 28-29, 2009 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The regional dialogue sought to strengthen a constructive civil society interaction with ASEAN and policy makers in confronting the challenges of the global financial crisis. At the end of the workshop, the following results were expected:

Improved and shared understanding of the impact and challenges of financial crisis in the region particularly to the poor and marginalized sectors.
Generated concrete policy recommendations and clear action points in addressing the financial crisis both for the national and regional level

This event was made possible through the active partnership of AFA, AsiaDHRRA and UNIAPRO/ASETUC, with funding support from Oxfam HK and GTZ and in cooperation with ASEAN.

About AsiaDHRRA

The Asian Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Asia (AsiaDHRRA) is a regional partnership of eleven social development networks and organizations in ten Asian nations that envisions Asian rural communities that are just, free, prosperous, living in peace and working in solidarity towards self-reliance.

Its mission is to be an effective promoter and catalyst of partnership relations, facilitator of human resource development processes in the rural areas and mobilizer of expertise and opportunities for the strengthening of solidarity and kinship among Asian rural communities.

AsiaDHRRA organized the five Farmers' Exchange Visits which eventually led to the formation of the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA)
